The annual election is held to select members for DAMA International®’s Board of Directors. This ensures fresh leadership, diverse perspectives, and alignment with the organization’s evolving strategic direction.
The election process is guided by DAMA®’s bylaws and overseen by the independent Governance and Nominations Committee. Key milestones and decisions are publicly posted, and eligible members participate in voting.
The Committee is responsible for identifying qualified candidates, vetting nominations, managing the petition process, and upholding the integrity and fairness of the election process.
Committee members are appointed from among the current DAMA-I Board members by the President and approved by the Board. Because the Committee has final authority for nominations and oversight of the elections process, the applicable corporations law requires that the Committee be made up only of current Board members.
Key dates, including the opening and closing of nominations, petition deadlines, and the voting period, are published annually on the DAMA® website’s election page.
Voting dates are determined by the Governance and Nominations Committee and announced in advance. Typically, voting is open for a two-week period.
To be eligible to be nominated, slated and serve on the DAMA-I Board, if elected, a person must be an Individual Professional Member of DAMA-I in good standing as of July 1 of the year of the election. Each nominee will be evaluated by the Governance and Nominations Committee based on factors set out in the bylaws and strategic criteria established by the Board of Directors.
Only Individual Professional Members in good standing as of July 1 of the year of the election may vote for President or Directors at Large. Member Chapters in good standing as of July 1 of the year of the election may vote for the Vice President and Chapter Directors. The Board of Directors of a Member Chapter must take formal action (a majority vote at a meeting or a 100% affirmative vote of all directors to take action without a meeting) to authorize a vote to be cast on the Member Chapter’s behalf by a designated representative.
Chapters must be in good standing and compliant with the Affiliation Agreement. A list of eligible chapters is published on the election page.
Nomination forms are available on the DAMA® website during the nomination period. They typically require a statement of motivation, a resume or bio, and endorsements from eligible members or chapters.
The Governance and Nominations Committee assesses each nomination based on established criteria, including experience, contributions to the profession, and alignment with DAMA®’s mission.
Persons who are nominated but not slated to run on the ballot are given 30 days to petition to be included on the ballot by obtaining a specified number of endorsements either from Individual Professional Members or Member Chapters.
Yes. Candidate profiles, including bios and motivation statements, are posted on the DAMA® website prior to the opening of voting to help members make informed decisions.
Candidate profiles are published online and shared via DAMA®’s member communications. Townhall sessions also provide direct engagement opportunities.
Townhalls are scheduled during the election period and announced on the website and via email. Sessions are typically held virtually.
While not mandatory, candidates are strongly encouraged to participate in townhalls to engage with voters and present their vision.
All official policies and procedures related to nominations, eligibility, petitions, and voting are posted on the DAMA® website.
Results are posted on the DAMA® website and shared with members via email shortly after the election closes and all votes are verified.
Voting is confidential, and detailed results are not publicly disclosed beyond overall vote counts per candidate.
