Position: Senior Project Manager for DMBOK Update

Overview
DAMA International seeks a highly experienced Project Manager to lead the comprehensive update of the Data Management Body of Knowledge (DMBOK). This pivotal initiative aims to modernize and align the DMBOK with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the data management profession.
The project will commence in December 2024 and is projected to span one year, with the potential for extension based on project needs. The Project Manager will collaborate closely with the Executive Director, Chair of the Editorial Board, and a Technical Writer to drive the project's success.
Envisioned Project Phases and Timelines
- Phase 1: Project Initiation (December 2024)
- Phase 2: Planning & Stakeholder Engagement (January–February 2025)
- Phase 3: Research & Content Collection (March–May 2025)
- Phase 4: Content Development & Review (June–September 2025)
- Phase 5: Finalization & Approval (October–November 2025)
- Phase 6: Post-Release & Close-Out (December 2025)
Project Scope & Deliverables
The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the following areas:
- Project Planning and Execution:
- Develop a comprehensive project plan detailing key milestones, deliverables, timelines, and resource requirements.
- Ensure alignment between all stakeholders and the project's strategic goals.
- Proactively monitor project budgets, schedules, and resources, making adjustments as necessary to stay on track.
- Coordinate and manage Editorial Board meetings, ensuring productive discussions and decision-making.
- Stakeholder Management:
- Engage with subject matter experts (SMEs) and a global community of data management professionals to gather diverse input.
- Facilitate clear, timely, and consistent communication between all stakeholders, ensuring everyone remains informed and engaged.
- Crowdsourcing and Community Engagement:
- Leverage survey platforms, crowdsourcing tools, and online collaboration tools to actively gather feedback from the broader data management community.
- Promote and encourage engagement through forums, discussion boards, and social media.
- Organize and host virtual workshops, webinars, and other interactive sessions to foster collaboration and gain deeper insights.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed and accurate project documentation, including meeting minutes, reports, and decision logs.
- Deliver regular status updates to the Executive Director and leadership team, highlighting progress.
- Risk Management
- Implement a proactive risk management approach throughout the project's lifecycle. This includes identifying potential risks early, assessing their impact, and taking appropriate steps to mitigate or eliminate these risks. Regular risk assessments and updates will be reported to leadership to ensure transparency and preparedness.
Candidate Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Data Management, Information Systems, or Business Administration.
- A Master’s (or PhD) degree and professional certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, CDMP) are strongly preferred.
- Required Skills and Expertise:
- Project Management:
Demonstrated experience leading large-scale, complex projects, ideally in the realm of collaborative publication and editing. Must have a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget. - Data Management Expertise:
In-depth knowledge of core data management areas such as data governance, data quality, data integration, and data architecture. Familiarity with data management trends and emerging technologies. - Crowdsourcing and Collaboration:
Prior experience utilizing crowdsourcing, surveys, and collaborative editing platforms for input collection and documentation. - Communication and Leadership:
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to lead and engage a global, diverse group of contributors, and facilitate productive interactions. - Technical Proficiency:
Advanced skills in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Asana) and collaboration tools (e.g., Google Docs, Microsoft OneDrive, Slack).

Compensation
The compensation is commensurate with experience, ranging between US$90 to US$100 per hour. The role is expected to require 25-35 hours of work per week, with possible variations depending on the project phase.
