DMBoK2 is now available in Spanish! see more

DAMA Latin America Region, comprised by four active Chapters: Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico, and five forming Chapters: Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay, is very proud to announce that the Spanish edition of the DMBOK2 is already available. This is the result of a very long journey where a great sense of community was developed among the volunteers from the Spanish speaking mentioned Chapters, ending in this work that will allow the Spanish speaking data professionals community to get closer to Data Management best practices compiled in DMBoK2 in their own language, avoiding any linguistic barrier.

We would like to send a special thank for their great work to our DAMA LATAM colleagues Cecilia Izquierdo, Cecilia Poittevin, Daniel Diaz, David Rivera, Diego Palacios, Diego Poppe, Eduardo Jallath, Francisco Guiñez, German Cortes, German Morante, Jose Guevara, Jose Luis Leon, Miguel Angel Oros, Pablo Cigliuti and Marilu Lopez, who, with their voluntary efforts, have effectively helped to carry out the translation.

DAMA-I Strategic Direction - Focusing Effort and Resources see more

DAMA-I wishes to thank the DAMA Chapters and Members who invested their time to complete the 2023 Membership Survey.  Your requests and insights helped the DAMAI Board focus on the organization’s strategic and operational goals for 2024 and into the future.

Chapters and Members have asked DAMA-I to concentrate its efforts and resources on education, chapter support and communication.  Specifically, members feel that DAMA International should spend the majority of its time on supporting and servicing the chapters, updating the DMBOK, and providing opportunities for members to complete CDMP training and become certified. They see the key external areas where DAMA-I could help members is through its education and information services with an emphasis on the changing landscape of data management, data security, and the implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

To achieve these strategic goals, your DAMA-I Board had pledged to focus on the following:

    1.  DAMA-I will hire an Executive Director who, with Board input, will implement a long-term resource/staff plan to support Chapters and Individual Members.

    2.  The DAMA-I by-laws committee will update the current bylaws to include more Chapter and Individual representatives.  Specifically, the Board will be a blended body of both chapters and individuals who will elect the directors and officers. The new Bylaws will be vetted and voted on by the Chapters during the second half of 2024.

    3. Following the release of the DMBOK2.0 Revised Edition, which was introduced in March 2024, a significant amount of resources has been allocated for a DMBOK3.0 edition.  Work on 3.0 will begin by June 2024 with input from experts, individuals, and Chapters.  DAMA currently provides the DMBOK in various languages and is now exploring expanding its availability into additional languages.

    4. The CDMP will have new Specialty Exams added.  Existing exams will be updated to reflect the DMBOK2.0 Revised edition after Oct. 1, 2024.  Until then the CDMP exams will continue to be based on DMBOK2.0. DAMA-I has introduced a pilot project (June 2024) whereby Chapters that organize CDMP in-person exam events will receive $50 for each paid registration.

    5. Our CDMP certification provider, Robinson Ryan, has launched a new and improved exam platform.  The DAMA-I Board is exploring the delivery of the exams in a multi-language format.

Communication to the Chapters will be improved by the addition of frequent postings concerning DAMA-I Board activities to the dama.org website and through updates to the President’s Council  bulletins.

DAMA International takes great pride in presenting the revised version of our flagship asset, the Data Management Body of Knowledge (DAMA-DMBOK2). As a vital resource for data management practitioners across various industries and sectors, the DAMA-DMBOK2 has earned recognition as a comprehensive framework of reference. Released in 2018, and today available in six languages, the DAMA-DMBOK2 continues to be the guide for Data Professionals across the globe and the manual of reference for the most valuable professional certification in the field as it is the Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP).

Understanding the importance of staying current, DAMA International has embarked on a journey to refresh and improve the existing DAMA-DMBOK2. The revised edition is a maintenance update that focuses on addressing known inconsistencies and inaccuracies rather than a complete overhaul of the book's content.

Since 2021, many DAMA members contributed sending valuable input and their observations of errors, misprints, and inconsistencies found within the DAMA-DMBOK2 while reading, studying, and working with it.

Thanks to the support of many volunteers all the feedback has been reviewed and incorporated to deliver an updated and more accurate maintenance version of the DAMA-DMBOK2. With these enhancements, the revised edition aims to be an even more reliable resource for data management professionals worldwide.

WHAT'S NEW IN THE REVISED EDITION?

The DAMA-DMBOK2 Revised Edition comes with several updates that aim to enhance the overall reading experience and provide a more consistent and accurate resource for data management professionals. Key improvements in the revised edition include:

    • Consistency in Terminology and Acronyms: Throughout the book, terms and acronyms have been standardized to ensure a consistent language for better comprehension.

    • Fixed Typos and Errors in Figures: We have corrected various typos and errors found in the figures across all chapters, providing a more accurate visual representation of the concepts discussed.

    • Reviewed Context Diagrams: The 12 context diagrams have been carefully reviewed, and we have improved their consistency with the content of the corresponding chapters.

    • Data Quality Chapter Enhancements: The structure of the Data Quality Chapter has been refined, and we have added an appendix to provide further insight and clarification on key concepts.

These updates aim to create a more reliable and user-friendly resource, empowering data management practitioners with an up-to-date and consistent framework for their work.
